“RESIDENTIAL ENERGY EFFICIENCY” Jessica Freiberger & Connie Taylor on Green Time TV

Can using energy efficiency save you money while it helps the environment?  For low income homeowners, reduction of energy bills can be critical for affording medications or food.  Jessica Freiberger of the People’s Community Action Corporation (PCAC), and Connie Taylor, of the Urban League of St. Louis, discuss residential energy efficiency with host Don Fitz.  They ask why “healthy homes” are important and how home retrofits can provide local jobs.  This Green Time (No. 454) includes the short movies “My Generation:  Home Energy Efficiency” and “You Know Clean Energy is winning when …” It is produced by the Gateway Greens in conjunction with KNLC Channel 24.  Call 314-727-8554 or contact [email protected] for info.

“JUST ENERGY POLICIES” Adolphus Pruitt & Sam Cummings on Green Time TV

Have you heard of the NAACP’s new report “Just Energy Policies: Reducing Pollution & Creating Jobs?”  Adolphus Pruitt, Chair of the St. Louis City branch of the NAACP, and Sam Cummings, of the Missouri Sierra Club Executive Committee, discuss the report’s call for clean energy policies with host John Hickey.  Reducing air pollution is critical because childhood asthma is epidemic in the African American community.  This could be due to 68% of African Americans’ living within 30 miles of a coal-fired power plant.  The clean energy field may bring jobs to the African American community.  This Green Time (No. 453) includes the short movies “Asheville Beyond Coal – Green Jobs” and “The Cost of Coal:  Michigan.” It is produced by the Gateway Greens in conjunction with KNLC Channel 24.  Call 314-727-8554 or contact [email protected] for info.

“THE RIGHT TO FARM OR THE RIGHT TO HARM?” Wes Shoemyer on Green Time TV

Missourians will vote on a constitutional amendment called “The Right to Farm.”  Does that mean that people do not now have the right to farm but the amendment would give it to them?  Or, could someone be trying to pull the wool over your eyes?  Wes Shoemyer, of Missouri’s Food for America, explains that Missouri law already guarantees rights to family farmers; but the so-called “Right to Farm” would extend these rights to corporations.  That could give advantages to CAFOs (confined animal feeding operations) and huge corporations that are not even headquartered in Missouri.  This Green Time (No. 452) features the movie “A Better Way to Farm” with Dr. John Ikerd.  It is produced by the Gateway Greens in conjunction with KNLC Channel 24.  Call 314-727-8554 or contact [email protected] for info.
