“JUST ENERGY POLICIES” Adolphus Pruitt & Sam Cummings on Green Time TV

Have you heard of the NAACP’s new report “Just Energy Policies: Reducing Pollution & Creating Jobs?”  Adolphus Pruitt, Chair of the St. Louis City branch of the NAACP, and Sam Cummings, of the Missouri Sierra Club Executive Committee, discuss the report’s call for clean energy policies with host John Hickey.  Reducing air pollution is critical because childhood asthma is epidemic in the African American community.  This could be due to 68% of African Americans’ living within 30 miles of a coal-fired power plant.  The clean energy field may bring jobs to the African American community.  This Green Time (No. 453) includes the short movies “Asheville Beyond Coal – Green Jobs” and “The Cost of Coal:  Michigan.” It is produced by the Gateway Greens in conjunction with KNLC Channel 24.  Call 314-727-8554 or contact [email protected] for info.

“PERILS OF ‘FREE’ TRADE” Marilyn Lorenz & Karen Wilson on Green Time TV

After NAFTA went into effect in 1994, it had disastrous effects on Mexican farmers, Missouri workers, and income levels within and between countries.  Marilyn Lorenz, of Interfaith Committee on Latin America, and Karen Wilson, of Joining Hands Network, discuss dangers of the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership.  They describe how it could allow foreign lawsuits to overturn domestic courts and expand extractive industries.  This could push poor people off their land and cause enormous environmental harm.  This Green Time (No. 432) includes the movie “What Is the Trans-Pacific Partnership?”  It is produced by the Gateway Greens in conjunction with KNLC Channel 24.  Call 314-727-8554 or contact [email protected] for info.

“SAVE THE WORLD ONE BITE AT A TIME-GO VEG!” Bonnie Boime on Green Time TV

Bonnie Boime, of the St. Louis Animal Rights Team, describes the horrific conditions in Confined Animal Feeding Operations.  Government regulations do not ensure that farm animals are treated humanely.  What about “cage free” eggs and grass fed beef?  What is the difference between a vegan & a vegetarian?  Is it healthy for people to avoid animal products?  Is it more expensive to eat a vegan diet?  What does eating meat have to do with climate change?  This Green Time (No. 441) features “Glass Walls.”  It is produced by the Gateway Greens in conjunction with KNLC Channel 24.  Call 314-727-8554 or contact [email protected] for info.
